September 3, 2008 · Leave a Comment

The Inter-American Juridical Committee is one of the organisations through which the Organization of American States accomplishes its purpose. The Committee serves the Organization as an advisory body on juridical matters of an international nature and promotes the progressive development and the codification of international law.

On 7th August the Committee adopted Resolution CJI/RES.147 (LXXIII-O/08) Principles on the Right of Access to Information. The Resolution sets out key principles governing the right to information, including recognition of access to information held by public bodies as a fundamental human right.

Freedom of information law is fast becoming customary international law!
