The Cayman Islands recently passed freedom of information law (FOI). In order to ready public sector bodies for the legislation, which comes into effect January 2009, a ‘Government Implementation Plan’ has been developed.
In the spirit of preparation, Carole Excell, Coordinator of the Cayman Islands FOI Unit, announced the upcoming visit of a Commonwealth Human Rights Initiative (CHRI) official to the Islands. The CHRI, an international has been a strong supporter of FOI: see, for example, the 2003 publication Open Sesame: Looking for the Right to Information in the Commonwealth.
